L — LIFE

LIFE IS OFTEN ABOUT WHAT WE LEARN TO NOTICE.

From the archive garden of people, places and practical lessons, viewed again.
WHEN KNOWING WHAT TO DO MATTERS.
Water safety is something many Australians grow up around, but familiarity with the ocean does not make it predictable.
Our conversation around water safety looked at the knowledge, awareness and decisions that help people stay safer around beaches and the sea.
The story remains useful because safety is not simply a list of rules.
It is about paying attention to conditions, understanding risk and knowing when circumstances have changed.
Sometimes a small piece of knowledge can make a very large difference.

WHAT PLACES CAN TEACH US.

At the University of Sydney, the Quadrangle and Great Hall offered another kind of Life story.
The sandstone buildings, history and Gothic Revival architecture carry ideas about education, institutions and the way places can shape learning.
Walking through a university is not only about classrooms or qualifications.
Buildings can hold memory.
Architecture can influence how a place feels.
And institutions can carry ideas from one generation to another.
Looking back, what stayed with me was the relationship between learning and place — how the setting itself becomes part of the experience.
