Pablo and the Shiny Object

At first he does not know what it is

Pablo walked on just as one of the first bigger waves washed away half of the word listen
He smiled and kept moving along the beach
Looking ahead he noticed something shiny in the sand
It looked like it was metal
Maybe it was a piece of rubbish
Or something washed up from a ship
Or blown in somehow from a storm
The object had a strange shine
When he got closer it looked like it was curved
It was a curved shape of some description
He only saw a glint of it now and then as he walked towards it
Flickering in the sun
He wondered whether he should go and explore it or leave it
It was close to where the waves were coming in
As if somehow they would take it away
He decided to go and check it out
As he got closer it looked like the top edge of it was round
Like a circle buried in the sand
He could see a small inscription of some kind
Like a round inscription on the side of it
He touched it with his toe
But it made no sound
Then he flicked it with his big toenail against the edge
It made a small clunk
That sound made him very curious
He started digging the sand away from around the outside
Slowly more of the object appeared
It was not flat
It was shaped like a bowl
A beautiful old bowl
Half buried in the sand
The waves moved closer
Pablo looked at the object
Then he looked at the sea
He wondered where it had come from
He wondered who had held it before
And he wondered why it had appeared now
ENDING
Pablo did not pick it up straight away
He stayed low beside it
Listening to the waves
Watching the light move across the metal
And wondering what kind of story the shiny object carried
